If you have been following this blog for any time at all you will notice the element of simplicity that flows through most of what we cook and build. This wine rack is no exception; simple design, materials and functionality. This is at least the 4th or 5th wine rack that the Carpenter has built but by far my favorite. He constructed this out of reclaimed hickory and wooden pallets. Hickory is a very hard wood and is oftentimes used for furniture making and architectural elements. According to Wikipedia there are woods that are stronger than hickory and woods that are harder, but the combination of strength, toughness, hardness and stiffness found in hickory wood is not found in any other commercial wood. Next to black walnut and pecan, hickory is likely my favorite type of wood for the Carpenter to use in his building projects.
This wine rack was built for my brother and his lovely bride as a wedding gift. The Carpenter’s skills sure do come in handy for gift giving. The picture below was meant to highlight the wood project but it closely resembles an add for a wine tasting venture. Now go enjoy yourselves a glass of wine….
